ARC’TERYX CONTEST WINNERS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND PAINTING
ACCESS TO THE OUTDOORS SERIES
Over the summer, Glazer’s partnered up with Arc’teryx to create a series of events encouraging creativity in the outdoors. From live presentations on capturing images of mountains and landscapes in Washington to photowalks and watercolor painting classes. In conjunction with this, Arc’teryx hosted a contest. This contest was open to photographers and painters alike.
We are excited to announce the winners of that contest!
Each of the judges, Anthony Ngu, Max Djenohan, and Claire Giodarno share some commentary on the work, check out these compelling and beautiful pieces of art.
PHOTOGRAPHY
John Hyppolite - 1st Place
ANTHONY - A lot of amazing elements that combined well. The milky way / stars popped but didn't detract from the person and snow textures being highlighted.
MAX - This composite shot is wonderfully created adding a variety of elements to keep the eye intrigued and engaged. While using the person to help humanize and add perspective/scale to such an out of the world photo.
PRIZES:
- An Arc'teryx Beta LT Jacket
- A Peak Design 65L Travel Duffle in Sage color with Large Camera Cube
- A framed print displayed at a gallery show at The Collective & Glazer's Camera
Danielle Ernst - 2nd Place
ANTHONY - The sunset lighting created some beautiful contrast for the outlines of the mountain goats.
MAX - To capture wildlife is a fleeting moment, multiplied by the fleetingness of Sunset. Combines to make this an incredible photo, with great composition and focal points.
PRIZES:
- Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody
- Peak Design Capture Camera Clip in Silver color
- $100 Glazer’s Gift Card
- A framed print displayed at a gallery show at The Collective & Glazer's Camera
BHARAT GURNUG - 3RD PLACE
MAX - The most unique photo submission, in the sense that everyone seemed to have chosen the mountain memo. I like the feeling of sheer power and movement that the falls elicit while creating a sense of softness and zen with rainbow mist. Good composition and good post-edit. I wish they would've added a person for scale to show the magnitude and create a human element.
PRIZE
- A framed print to be displayed at a gallery show at The Collective & Glazer's Camera
PAINTING
PREETA WILLEMANN - 1ST PLACE
CLAIRE - This painting is beautiful. I love the sense of depth the artist achieved with the colors they chose, composition, and textures. I also appreciate the dark shadows they added (one of my favorite elements of landscape paintings) because they draw my eye nicely around the painting, and create a nice sense of mood. Well done!
PRIZES
- Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket
- 11x14 inch Print by Claire Giordano
- 1 free month of watercolor lessons with Claire Giordano's Adventure Art Academy
- A framed print displayed at a gallery show at The Collective & Glazer's Camera
YAGMUR KUZAY - 2ND PLACE
CLAIRE - Artist point is one of my favorite places in Washington, and I like how the artist chose to paint this iconic view at an atypical time of day! This choice creates something unique from most photos and paintings we see of the area. The artist also did a great job using the dark swaths of blue to really highlight the glowing white of Mount Baker.

- Arc'teryx Cerium LT Hoody
- 1 free month of watercolor lessons with Claire Giordano's Adventure Art Academy
- Alpenglow Postcard Set by Claire Giordano
- A framed print displayed at a gallery show at The Collective & Glazer's Camera
COLIE PILLING - 3RD PLACE
CLAIRE - I like the subtlety of the colors the artist chose and how they create a cohesive and peaceful feeling for this landscape. The small details also add so much, especially the patterning in the rock, trees, and tiny dots for flowers! I would love to see the artist try painting larger, too, as they have the skills to do it, and this scene would work well as a large painting!
