The Leica SL lenses are full-frame AF lenses designed for professional needs. The SL lenses are silent and offer precise AF. All SL lenses have an AquaDura hydrophobic coating on the outer lens elements. The lenses are sealed to protect from dust and water.

In addition to the excellent imaging performance over the entire focal length range typical of Leica, the high-performance lens offers fast and quiet autofocus. In this case, a single, very light single lens is moved to focus. With the aid of the specially developed motor concept, consisting of a stepper motor and a linear guide, it is thus possible to focus very quickly, quietly and precisely, whereby the overall length of the objective remains unchanged.
The newly developed optical design of the Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 1: 3.5-4.5 / 16-35 ASPH. consists of a total of 18 lenses in 12 groups. Two aspherical lenses are used for the correction of monochromatic aberrations and three lenses made of glasses with anomalous partial dispersion for the correction of chromatic aberrations.

Design Details
The wide-angle design is based on 18 lenses in 12 groups. Multiple aspherical elements reduce distortion and ensure uniform sharpness right up to the edges.
