Ricoh GR IIIx Urban Edition Digital Camera
Inspired by street photographers who are in their element on the asphalt pavement, the Ricoh GR IIIx “Urban Edition” features a metallic gray body that has a unique texture. It’s smooth but enables excellent grip, a combination of design and functionality. The blue lens ring cap complements the metallic gray color. This camera also debuts several new functions, including Snap Distance Priority mode and Auto Area AF (Center) focus mode.
The GR IIIx Urban Edition Special Limited Kit includes the GR IIIx camera in the special metallic gray body finish, a blue lens ring cap, plus a leather wrist strap with a blue application the matches the color of the lens ring and a black metal hot shoe cover.
Snap Distance Priority
Newly added Snap Distance Priority in Exposure mode. By selecting the snap shooting distance and DOF in advance, just by selecting this mode you can instantly recall this setting. When the DOF 3 is selected, the aperture is set to nearly pan focus so you can release the shutter right away.
Auto-Area AF (Center)
Newly added Auto-area AF (Center) in Focus mode. Auto-area AF works around the center of the frame (9 areas) instead of the entire frame. This prevents the camera from focusing on unintended areas such as the ground in front of you, allowing you more control of your street snaps.
Special Power-Off Graphic
The Urban Edition features a special power-off graphic with a street-like texture on the background with the GR IIIx Urban Edition logo.
Blue Lens Ring Cap and Metal Hot Shoe Cover
The camera body is accentuated by an eye-catching blue ring that encircles the lens barrel. It complements the metallic gray color the GR IIx Urban Edition and is exclusive to this series. The Special Limited Kit also includes a specially designed black metallic hot shoe cover.
Leather Hand Strap
The luxurious leather hand strap features a blue swivel (leather ring) to match the ring cap of the camera. It is special version that matches the design of the Urban Edition.
GR Lens Achieves Sharp Imaging with High Resolution and High Contrast
The GR lens has been imbued with our unique optical technology that aims to always provide high image quality. The GR III uses a slim optical system consisting of 6 elements 4 groups with a focal length of 18.3 mm (approx. 28 mm in 35 mm equivalent focal length) and aperture of F2.8. The GR IIIx uses a newly developed optical system consisting of 7 elements 5 groups with a new focal length of 26.1 mm (approx. 40 mm in 35 mm equivalent focal length). High-refractive index low-dispersion glass lenses and aspherical high-precision molded glass lenses are optimally placed in the lens construction according to each model’s optical system to suppress optical distortion and chromatic aberration to the absolute limit, delivering a high level of sharpness. This results in images that are sharp and clear across the entire frame even from the full aperture setting.
24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and GR Engine 6
The GR IIIx Urban Edition Digital Camera boasts a state-of-the-art GR Engine 6 imaging processor that enhances the already high image quality performance of the GR. Thanks to faster processing, the camera can produce stunning 24.2MP stills in both 14-bit DNG and JPEG formats, with improved tonality and functionality for autofocus and movie.
Shooting at ISO 102400
A high-performance processor "Accelerator Unit" is adopted on GR IIIx as a powerful way to support high image quality. The signal output by the image sensor is sent to the image processor after being optimally handled. This reduces noise, delivering superb resolution and color reproduction across the entire sensitivity range. It also makes it possible to shoot at ISO 102400.
3-axis, 4-step Shake Reduction
Camera shake is reduced for crisp images even when taking split-second snapshots. Shake Reduction(SR) is installed while making the body size of GR IIIx compact. It minimizes the shake on three axes, including yaw, pitch and roll. Compensation effects deliver as many as 4 steps of shutter speed.
Anti-Aliasing (AA) Filter
The effects of the optical anti-aliasing (AA) filter are obtained with Shake Reduction(SR). Moving the image sensor slightly during the exposure suppresses false colors and moiré. You can choose whether to prioritize resolution or reducing false colors and moiré depending on your subject. Choose [High] or [Low] for effect settings.
Compact and Lightweight Design
The GR IIIx Urban Edition is designed with compactness, functionality, and portability in mind. Its exterior frame is crafted from sturdy magnesium alloy, ensuring durability while on the go or in storage. This camera boasts user-friendly features such as a quick start-up time of only 0.8 seconds, conveniently located control dials and a user-friendly touchscreen for effortless operation. These features enhance overall usability and allow for swift reactions to once in a lifetime photo opportunities.
HD LCD Monitor with Touch-Screen Operation
A 3" HD LCD display with touch-screen capability allows for seamless control of camera features such as AF frame shift, menu navigation, and image viewing/enlarging. The outdoor view option enables quick adjustment of screen brightness for improved visibility in challenging lighting situations.
Image Control and Visual Effects
The camera includes a unique image control feature that seamlessly incorporates effect modes into traditional image adjustments. With 11 primary control modes, you can effortlessly fine-tune hue, saturation, key, contrast, and graininess to your preferences. Additionally, you can save a customized set of adjustments for easy access in the image control function menu.
Advanced Image Editing
The GR IIIx Urban Edition features in-camera RAW editing, allowing you to adjust parameters like recording size, aspect ratio, white balance, and exposure compensation without a PC. Even after initial RAW-data development, the camera retains these adjustments, making it easy to make small tweaks to the developed image.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Staying up with current trends, the GR IIIx Urban Edition provides wireless functions for easy pairing with mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. By installing the dedicated Image Sync app, you can transfer captured images to a mobile device, display a live-view image on the monitor, change various settings remotely, release the shutter from a distance, and upload captured images to various social media platforms with ease. You can also send your mobile device's location data to the camera and record the data on captured images. An auto resize function automatically reduces the image size before transmitting it to a mobile device.
Additional New Functions
An Enable AF mode has been added to the shutter-button settings. When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway down, the user can lock the AF system only, without locking the AE system. A distance setting of 11.5" has been added to the Snapshot mode, and a long press on the monitor during playback allows you to instantly recall the playback function selection menu.
Shutdown Screen
Exclusive to GR IIIx Urban Edition, when the camera's power is turned off, the camera displays an original shutdown screen featuring the product logo and a street view image symbolizing the urban-oriented concept.
