HNCS HDR Highlight Images

Building on HNCS, X2D II 100C's HNCS HDR harnesses high dynamic range to elevate Hasselblad's signature natural colors to new heights of brilliance. Even in harsh light, it prevents overexposure more effectively whilst revealing more detail. HDR images captured with X2D II 100C can be viewed directly on the built-in 1400-nit touchscreen or on any HDR-capable iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android device. When SDR photography is preferred, simply switch modes in camera settings.

Discover HNCS HDR

The renowned Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS) now evolves with high dynamic range technology in X2D II 100C, bringing end-to-end HNCS HDR for imagery that captures the world as your eyes truly see it.

Refining Hasselblad Tones With HDR

Traditional HDR solutions focus solely on dynamic optimization—brightening shadows and compressing highlights to retain detail. While this preserves details, it often reduces contrast and flattens the image, sacrificing the very tonal qualities that bring photographs to life.

Hasselblad engineers recognized that mastering highlight rendition demanded an entirely different approach.

To reveal HDR's full potential, Hasselblad expands from sRGB to the wider P3 color gamut. The new imaging system delivers a 3-stop increase in dynamic range for in-camera output, with up to 4 stops when processing RAW files in Phocus. Paired with 1400-nit peak brightness—75% brighter than its predecessor—it unlocks the medium format sensor's complete imaging capabilities, revealing nuanced details in highlights that would otherwise be lost.

Through three years of intensive development, our engineers have created HNCS HDR—a breakthrough solution that enhances Hasselblad's signature natural colors and tones with the expanded possibilities of high dynamic range, whilst maintaining the authentic Hasselblad color science photographers trust—whether capturing in HDR or SDR.

Highlights Throughout Your Workflow

With X2D II 100C, HNCS HDR brilliance flows through every stage of your workflow—from initial capture to playback to post-processing. The camera generates HDR HEIF or Ultra HDR JPEG files directly, viewable instantly on the built-in 1400-nit touchscreen.

Phocus Mobile 2 brings this capability further. Beyond viewing and editing X2D II 100C HDR images, the app can apply HNCS HDR processing to RAW files from X2D 100C, X1D II 50C, CFV 100C and CFV II 50C. When shared on HDR-capable platforms, these images showcase the full brilliance of HNCS HDR, revealing colors and tones with unprecedented fidelity.

100-Megapixel CMOS Sensor

X2D II 100C's enhanced 100-megapixel medium format BSI CMOS sensor embodies Hasselblad's commitment to uncompromising image quality. With 16-bit color depth delivering around 281 trillion colors, it captures the subtle gradations that bring photographs to life. The addition of ISO 50 native sensitivity and 15.3 stops of dynamic range provides photographers with precise control—from the deepest shadows to the brightest highlights, every nuance is preserved with exceptional detail.

  • 15.3 STOPS Dynamic Range
  • ISO 50 Native Sensitivity
3.6-inch OLED Two-Way Tilt Touchscreen

The 3.6-inch OLED touchscreen features vivid HDR visuals and up to 1400-nit peak brightness for true-to-life clarity. The versatile screen tilts up 90° and down to approximately 43°, and can be pulled out to stay clear of the viewfinder.

5-Axis, 10-Stop Stabilization

Stabilization performance is now up to 8 times 6 that of X2D 100C when capturing distant subjects. The advanced 5-axis, 10-stop IBIS 1 lets you shoot handheld for several seconds 7 and still capture crisp, clear images. Long exposures to capture flowing traffic or running water are now possible without a tripod.

Behind the Innovation

Precision Without Compromise

The 100-megapixel medium format sensor's extraordinary resolution demands equally extraordinary stabilization.

Hasselblad engineers redesigned the entire stabilization system—hardware, structure, and algorithms—delivering 5-axis, 10-stop in-body image stabilization 1 to X2D II 100C whilst maintaining the compact form photographers expect.

Uncompromising Calibration Standards

Each X2D II 100C undergoes an individual 2-hour calibration using Hasselblad's most stringent protocols. For X2D II 100C, our engineers applied Hasselblad’s highest internal standards, achieving 0.1-pixel control precision through pixel-level calibration.

The system employs high-precision gyroscopes and accelerometers, detecting movements as fine as 0.001 degrees. Through extensive field research analysing camera shake patterns across all age groups, Hasselblad refined the stabilization algorithms for real-world conditions. An innovative electronic compass even compensates for Earth's rotation*, ensuring consistent performance worldwide.

FAQ:

WHAT ARE THE MAJOR UPGRADES OF X2D II 100C COMPARED TO X2D 100C?
X2D II 100C, the 100-Megapixel HDR Mirrorless Medium Format Digital Camera, is the new flagship of the Hasselblad X System, combining AF-C continuous autofocus, Hasselblad Natural Color Solution with High Dynamic Range (HNCS HDR), and 5-axis, 10-stop in-body image stabilization*. Together with Phocus Mobile 2's streamlined and efficient workflow, these advancements deliver a transformative leap in your photography experience.

* 10-stop stabilization at the image centre and 8-stop at the edges. Measured by Hasselblad with the XCD 3,5/120 Macro lens using CIPA standards.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HNCS HDR AND TRADITIONAL HDR?
Traditional HDR solutions focus solely on dynamic optimization by brightening shadows and compressing highlights to retain detail. However, this approach reduces contrast, causing images to appear flat and losing crucial tonal qualities.

Hasselblad HNCS HDR extends the colour gamut to the wider P3. The new imaging system delivers a 3-stop increase in dynamic range for in-camera output, with up to 4 stops when processing RAW files in Phocus. The 1400-nit peak brightness—75% brighter than its predecessor—allows details previously lost in bright highlights to be fully revealed.

WHICH FILE FORMATS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH HNCS HDR?
RAW, HEIF and JPG formats.

WHICH LENSES ARE COMPATIBLE WITH AF-C CONTINUOUS AUTOFOCUS?
Compatible with XCD 2,8-4/35-100E, XCD 2,5/38V, XCD 2,5/55V, XCD 2,5/25V, XCD 2,5/90V, XCD 4/28P, XCD 3,4/75P, and other lenses (lenses must be updated to latest firmware), but not available with electronic shutter.

WHY DOES THE LENS VIBRATE SLIGHTLY DURING AF-C?
During continuous autofocus, the lens continuously fine-tunes focus around the focal point, but this does not affect focus accuracy when capturing images.

HOW DO I ADJUST EXPOSURE COMPENSATION WHEN EXPOSURE IS SET TO MANUAL AND ISO IS NOT SET TO AUTO?
Hold the "ISO/WB" button while turning the rear scroll wheel.

WHICH FLASH/WIRELESS TRIGGER MODELS ARE SUPPORTED?
In TTL mode, we recommend:
Nikon flashes: SB-300, SB-500, SB-700, SB-5000
Profoto flashes: A10, A1
Triggers: Connect Pro, Connect, Air Remote TTL

WHAT DOES SENSOR CALIBRATION DO? WHEN SHOULD I PERFORM SENSOR CALIBRATION?
Sensor calibration checks and optimizes the camera sensor. If unexpected bright spots appear in photos or live view, use this function to correct these issues.
