Join us October 10 for Sony Alpha Collab at The Collective Seattle—an immersive day exploring Nature + Wildlife, Portrait + Studio, and Sports photography with accomplished local professionals.

Expect inspiring talks, live demonstrations, hands-on shooting, a sports photography panel, and plenty of opportunities to get your hands on Sony Alpha cameras and lenses. Coffee + pastries. Lunch. Sony gear. A full day of photography and community.

9:30–10:45 AM // SESSION 1 — WILDLIFE + NATURE

In the Wild with Daniel Fowler

Start the day with nature and wildlife photographer Daniel Fowler for an inspiring look at photographing the natural world. Daniel will share his approach to finding compelling subjects, working in unpredictable environments, and creating images that go beyond simply documenting what’s in front of the camera.

11:00 AM–12:00 PM // SESSION 2 — PORTRAIT + STUDIO

Build the Scene

Go behind the scenes of a studio shoot and see how a simple idea develops into a finished set. Explore composition, prop placement, depth, color, and the small creative decisions that make an image feel intentional before the shutter is ever pressed.

12:00–1:00 PM // LUNCH + SONY GEAR EXPERIENCE

Lunch is on us! Take a break, connect with other photographers and spend some time at the Sony gear-loan desk. Get hands-on with Sony Alpha cameras and lenses, talk with the Sony team, and find something new to try during the afternoon sessions.

1:00–2:00 PM // SESSION 3 — PORTRAIT + STUDIO

Shape the Light

See how dramatically a scene can change through light alone. Starting with warm, natural-feeling fall light, we’ll transform the same set into a more dramatic, Old Hollywood-inspired look while breaking down the lighting choices, modifiers, placement, and creative decisions behind each setup.

2:00–3:30 PM // SESSION 4 — HANDS-ON PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE

Direct the Frame

Now it’s your turn. Explore how posing, expression, camera angle, composition, and photographer direction can completely change the final image. Watch the process unfold, then step behind the camera and put those ideas into practice during a hands-on shooting experience.

3:30–5:00 PM // SESSION 5 — SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY PANEL

Stories from the Sidelines

What does it take to anticipate the game-winning moment?

Join a panel of professional sports photographers working across completely different worlds—from professional soccer and hockey to rodeo and equine competition. While their subjects may differ, they face many of the same challenges: anticipating peak action, working under pressure, navigating access and credentials, and creating images that tell the story beyond the final score.

Hear how these photographers approach their craft, the gear and techniques they rely on, how they built careers in sports photography, and what photographers in any genre can learn from thinking like a sports shooter.

The conversation will wrap with an audience Q&A.

A Multi-Day Photography Retreat Under the Stars

Escape to the beautiful wilderness of Randle, Washington for an unforgettable weekend timed with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Camping is set along the tranquil banks of the Cowlitz River featuring community gathering, river floats, yoga, and campground photo activities. A variety of expert led night sky and daytime photography excursions will be available to the scenic Mt. Rainier and Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
