The C400's July 2025 firmware release will support Distortion and Chromatic Aberration correction while playing back Cinema RAW Light clips on camera. This ensures productions can accurately review takes on-set without needing to offload the card to a computer first.

Camera-to-Cloud Collaboration

The camera has native compatibility with Frame.io’s Camera-to-Cloud (C2C) technology. This feature enables you to send proxy files immediately after recording internally, directly from the camera, for a faster and more secure path from production to post. The efficient proxy files don’t require additional processing or conversion, and are available to view, share, and edit remotely between teams in different locations.

CFexpress Type B and SD Cards Slots

CFexpress and SD card slots on the EOS C400 allow for simultaneous recording even when shooting RAW. All recording options are recorded to the camera’s CFexpress slot with sub-recording and proxy options available on the SD card slot.

Built-in Mechanical ND Filters

The C400’s compact mechanical ND filter assembly is specifically designed for the RF mount's short flange back. Buttons for direct control of ND filters are located on the right-hand side of the camera.

The C400 provides up to ten stops of ND filtration, allowing users to shoot in various lighting conditions. The use of ND filters allows a camera operator to adjust exposure while maintaining the depth of field.

Improved Autofocus with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II4

The C400 supports the next generation of Canon’s acclaimed Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. The back-illuminated stacked sensor provides better light-capturing efficiency, widening the area of the sensor that can be used for AF.  Additionally, you can utilize AF while recording in slow or fast motion at speeds up to 4K 120P.

EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition

With outstanding speed, precision, and wide AF range, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II uses the EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition (iTR AF X) algorithm, developed with deep learning technology, to enable high-performance subject detection. In addition to human eyes, face, and head, the camera can now detect the body of a person and follow them with high accuracy.

Tracking AF and Lens Focus Ring

Also added for the EOS C400, is the ability to combine Tracking AF with manual focus control. While Tracking AF is enabled, a user can adjust focus manually by using the lens focus ring. Once manual focus control is completed, the camera will maintain focus and Tracking AF will resume automatically.

iTR AF X Animal Detection

iTR AF X Animal Detection detects the eyes, face, or the entire body of certain animals to enable highly accurate focusing and tracking not affected by subject size or face orientation.5

Mount Adapter PL-RF with Cooke / i Technology Compatibility

The Mount Adapter PL-RF unlocks a broad assortment of PL mount lenses for the EOS C400 cameras. The adapter is compatible with Cooke/i Technology’s metadata protocol which enables real-time output of lens metadata (focus/zoom/iris position, and other data in addition to lens model information). Additionally, the robust adapter features locking plates that attach to the camera with four screws for a secure and stable lens mount.

Variety of Interfaces, Including Timecode and Genlock

The C400 has a diverse set of interfaces making it a versatile camera for film set and live broadcast productions.

A dedicated 12-pin LENS terminal for broadcast and cine-servo lenses, 12G-SDI (SDI OUT) and 3G-SDI (MON.) for monitor outputs, two mini-XLR audio inputs (INPUT 1 and INPUT 2), DIN connectors for Time Code (TC), Genlock and return video (G-LOCK/SYNC/RET), a full-size HDMI (HDMI OUT), built-in Wi-Fi, Ethernet and REMOTE terminal.

The December 2024 firmware upgrade adds a 1920x1080P output option for monitoring while recording at higher resolutions.

Return Video Input, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi Control

The versatile C400 has specialized functions for live productions including a return video input that notifies operators which camera is currently being broadcast live.

The built-in Ethernet port enables Canon's IP-based remote control XC Protocol. XC Protocol helps to maximize operability and remote control of camera settings. Using the XC Protocol, the camera can be operated by Canon’s RC-IP1000 and RC-IP100 controllers, and XC Protocol-enabled third-party remote control panels (RCP) can remotely shade the camera.

Additionally, Canon’s Remote Control Camera Application (RCCA) can control camera settings as well as multiple cameras. The camera also features SRT protocol, enabling IP streaming of video and audio.

Compact, Lightweight, Ergonomic Body Design

The RF mount’s short flange back allows the EOS C400 body to be small and lightweight making the camera just as comfortable on a drone or a gimbal as it is on your shoulder, a tripod, or any configuration where compact size and light weight are important.

The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is equipped with an iris ring (aperture control), the first among RF lenses8.  This allows video users to manually control exposure adjustment and the degree of background blur while shooting video, with click-less, smooth operation — similar to the operability in a cinema lens.

Close-focusing to Under 1.5 ft., Max. Magnification 0.29x

With a minimum focusing distance of approximately 1.5 ft./0.45m, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens helps you get close to your subjects. The maximum magnification is 0.29x at 105mm, allowing you to capture subtle details more expansively and clearly. Focus shifts during zooming are minimal — plus, it supports focus breathing correction9, in which the camera digitally corrects for changes in angle of view caused by focus movement during video recording, especially during closeup shooting.

Optical Image Stabilization

For consistently sharp results, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z features built-in optical Image Stabilization, providing enhanced shake reduction for up to 5.5 stops of shake correction. When paired with an EOS R-series camera that has In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS allows for up to 8.0 stops of correction10. This means more reliable handheld performance and clear detail in low-light situations, without having to increase the ISO or decrease the shutter speed. Additionally, an IS Mode switch is featured for the first time among Canon RF standard zoom lenses.

Nano USM Maintains Focus While Zooming

The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z features two Nano USM (ultrasonic motors) focus drive system, powering both its autofocus, and its “floating” optics which move independently to ensure maximum image quality. Nano USM provides quiet and smooth AF, especially useful during movie recording. In addition, the Nano USM maintains focus while zooming to suppress aberration fluctuations during high-speed burst or movie shooting.

Excellent Handling

With its fixed-length lens barrel design and balanced center of gravity, the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z provides excellent handling for any shooting style and especially advantageous when using accessories for shooting video. The lens comes with a tripod mount that can be easily attached and detached with a lock release button, without the need of a special tool. Also available is the LH-E1 lens holder (sold separately), which supports the lens when combining with a rig.

Durable and Dependable Build

The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z boasts amazing durability and endurance you’d expect from an L-series lens. The lens barrel does not move during zooming or focusing; both are achieved entirely internally.  Weather-resistant sealing is applied to areas such as the operation rings and switch panel to help prevent water and dust from entering the unit. Fluorine coating is applied on the front lens to prevent water, oil and other surface residue like fingerprints from sticking to the lens, which facilitates quick and easy wiping without the use of solvents. This dust- and water-resistant design allows for outstanding performance even in inclement weather conditions.
