This compact, lightweight wide-angle lens is presented as a coveted Safari design variant distinguished by its olive-green finish.

As a Safari design variant, this standard focal length is every bit as distinctive as the images it creates. The coveted, durable matte olive-green finish paired with the finely detailed adjustment scales lend the lens a striking appearance. Like the series model, the Safari Edition delivers natural perspectives aligned with the human field of view and maintains strong performance even in challenging lighting conditions. Thanks to its selective focus capabilities, it is perfectly suited for portraits, delivering high-contrast images with finely resolved detail – even at full aperture and right down to the close focus distance.

Countless iconic images have been created using this fast 35mm lens. This classic focal length is characterized by its inimitable image aesthetics. The Safari Edition of this versatile tool showcases an equally distinctive design. Its striking matt olive-green finish is not only particularly durable, but also extremely sought after. Technologically aligned with the series model, this design variant also excels in every scenario – whether employing selective focus at close range, working in challenging lighting conditions or capturing landscape shots with optimal imaging performance.

The 28 mm: Providing Perspective and Purpose

The Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. unites a traditional reportage focal length with impressive speed and exacting precision. Its angle of view portrays lively street scenes with the same assurance as sweeping landscapes. It stays unobtrusive, swift and relentlessly sharp. A wide-angle lens for photographers seeking close engagement with their subject while preserving spatial perspective.

Improved minimum focusing distance

With a minimum focusing distance of 40 centimeters, the wide-angle lens unlocks fascinating photographic opportunities. This capability stems from a unique dual-curve mechanism crafted by Leica's expert engineers. It notably expands the rotational range of the distance ring compared to the previous model, letting you get even closer to your subjects. The compact prime lens boasts a focus ring that allows for exceptionally quiet, smooth, and easy adjustments across the entire range. Focusing is still managed through the M camera's rangefinder for up to 70 centimeters. For distances ranging from 70 to 40 centimeters, you can rely on the live view display, Visoflex 2, or the Leica FOTOS app.

The Strengths of the 28 mm Leica M-Lens

The Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. excels in scenarios where spatial awareness and contextual detail enrich the narrative. Whether in urban settings, on the road or during documentary assignments. Thanks to its f/2 lens speed, it makes photography possible even in challenging lighting and yields images that appear clear and naturally rendered. Its streamlined build lends itself perfectly to discreet photography. Its refined optical design ensures elevated contrast, suppresses distortion and preserves remarkable sharpness right to the outermost edges of the frame.

Design of the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH.

With nine lenses in six groups – including an aspherical lens – the optical system achieves precise correction of both spherical aberrations and distortion. Its close focus distance is just 0.4 meters. The durable all-metal construction, complemented by a screw-in lens hood, offers dependable protection from glare while accentuating the lens’s characteristically compact profile.
