More compact, easier to use. An unobtrusive design for capturing sudden photo opportunities in an advanced package. This is the quintessential snapshot camera with the Highlight Diffusion Filter.

The lens, image sensor, and image processing engine have all been reinvented.

The Ricoh GR IV HDF Digital Camera, based on the high-end RICOH GR IV compact digital camera, is equipped with the company’s proprietary HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter).

With the exceptional image quality, flawless point-and-shoot operation, and outstanding portability that the GR series is known for, the GR IV HDF allows the user to instantly engage the built-in HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) with a single action. This special-effect filter diffuses highlight areas and creates a blurred effect along the image’s edges, making it possible to capture somewhat nostalgic images resembling those captured in film photography or vintage movies.

This creative versatility expands the visual boundaries of snapshot photography, giving the user the option to shoot high resolution, high contrast images for accuracy and precision; or softer, more expressive images to create a sense of depth and emotion, depending on their subject or creative intention.

The GR IV HDF also features an electronically controlled shutter mechanism, which allows the user to intentionally raise the shutter speed up to 1/16,000 second, making it possible to capture images at extremely bright locations while still setting a larger aperture. This mechanism will also be available for the RICOH GR IV using new function-expansion firmware, which is scheduled to be released following the launch of the new RICOH GR IV HDF.

Built-in RICOH-original HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter), to create softer, more expressive images

The GR IV HDF incorporates the RICOH-original HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter), which is designed to emphasize highlights and produce mellow, soft images. Developed by taking advantage of the advanced inkjet technology RICOH has cultivated over the years, this special-effect filter diffuses highlight areas and creates a blurred effect along the image’s edges, making it possible to capture nostalgic images resembling those captured in film photography or movies. HDF can be instantly switched on and off with a single action, allowing the user effortlessly to alternate between two completely different visual expressions — clear, sharply focused images representative of the RICOH GR series, and softer light, more expressive images captured by the HDF — depending on the subject or creative intention.

High-speed electronic shutter with a top speed of 1/16,000 second for shooting at extremely bright locations

In addition to a conventional mechanical shutter unit, the GR IV HDF also features an electronically controlled shutter mechanism,* which allows the user to intentionally raise the shutter speed up to 1/16,000 second, making it possible to capture images at extremely bright locations while still setting a larger aperture. * This mechanism can also be installed on the RICOH GR IV using new function expansion firmware (scheduled to be released following the launch of the RICOH GR IV HDF).

* This mechanism can also be installed on the RICOH GR IV using new function expansion firmware (scheduled to be released following the launch of the RICOH GR IV HDF).

HDF default setting for Fn Button and update to Shutter-release button color

The default setting of the Fn (Function) button has been changed to the HDF ON/OFF switching function**, allowing the user to quickly engage the HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) with the press of the button.

** The default setting of the Fn button can be changed to other functions.

The color of the shutter-release button has been changed from the GR IV’s black to grayish silver, to subtly differentiate the HDF model and to symbolize the camera’s ability to instantly shift the image’s visual expression.

A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation.
The New GR Lens.

Lenses that capture light are the most important elements in ensuring high image quality. It was this idea that resulted in the new 18.3mm (28mm in 35mm equivalent focal length) F2.8 GR lens. Driven by our conventional design concepts and incorporating innovations in optical technologies, we added a large, aspherical high-precision molded glass lens as the final lens in a 5-group 7-element construction. Effective aberration correction improves sharpness from the center area of the frame to the edges. Also, optimal placement of high-refractive index low-dispersion glass lenses and aspherical molded glass lenses which are made possible by ultra high-precision manufacturing technologies result in a slim lens unit. We also developed a new lens barrel that contributes to a shorter start-up time and faster AF.

High-sensitivity and Low-noise Back-illuminated Sensor.
25.7M CMOS Image Sensor.

Accurate reproduction, rich tones, and high-sensitivity performance. To enhance each of these areas, the GR IV uses a back-illuminated APS-C size equivalent CMOS image sensor (approx. 25.74 million effective pixels). This makes it possible to fully utilize all of the light collected by the new GR lens with high sensitivity and low noise. In addition, a new UV/IR protection filter has been developed for the front surface of the lens. In particular, by enhancing the permeability on the long wavelength side, the amount of incident light to R pixels has been increased, improving color reproduction.

Advanced Imaging Power and Mobility.
GR ENGINE 7

The new GR lens and image sensor deliver a wealth of information and the new GR ENGINE 7 uses it to the full in images. Improved image processing capabilities enable delicate, realistic reproduction of details. In addition, faster processing speeds improve camera response times, including AF. These features enhance the high image quality and mobility required of a snapshot camera.

Expand the Realm of Possibilities.
ISO 204800

The GR IV features better high-sensitivity performance with a maximum setting of ISO 204800. You can now flexibly set the sensitivity according to your shooting style. High SN ratio signals output from the back-illuminated image sensor are optimally processed on our original accelerator unit and then sent to the GR ENGINE 7. The flexibility of the sensitivity settings expands the possibilities of expression.

Powerful Snapshot Capabilities.
5-axis, 6-step Image Stabilization.

The camera detects shaking even during sudden snapshots. The image sensor instantly activates to correct camera shake. The GR IV features 5-axis image stabilization. In addition to conventional angular and rotational blur, it also corrects shift blur, which tends to be noticeable during close-up shooting. A fully developed correction algorithm delivers enhanced performance up to 6.0* steps when converted to shutter speed.

Pick It up and You Will Feel the Difference.
Slim Body & Superb Grip.

A camera hidden away in a pocket becomes a part of you when you take it out. The GR IV offers enhanced performance in a compact, slim body. The body (excluding the grip and lens unit) is particularly slim and the grip is deeper for a more secure hold. The shape of this grip and the rear thumb rest have been optimized for a form that naturally molds itself to your hand. The button and dial layout has also been improved and ADJ mode is now available on the dial, delivering enhanced mobility appropriate for a snapshot camera.

Faster, More Precise.
AF Performance.

The GR IV offers superb imaging that is similar to how the human eye sees. Its AF performance has also advanced significantly. AF speed has been improved thanks to faster lens drive with the new lens barrel and faster readout with the new image sensor. The AF algorithm has also been tuned for more precise focusing. Furthermore, we have also incorporated various other AF innovations, such as improved AF performance in low-light scenes and better subject detection across a wide area thanks to image plane phase difference.

Finely Honed Responsiveness.
approx. 0.6 second High-speed Start-up.

Simply pick up the camera and you are ready to shoot. The new lens barrel and optimized start-up sequence gives the GR IV the fastest start-up time of the GR series at approx. 0.6 second. Other operation times are also faster, including switching to the macro mode and retracting the lens after shooting for more responsive shooting.

Never Miss a Subject.
Focus Mode.

The GR IV is equipped with a variety of focusing modes including “Continuous AF.” The monitor supports touch operation. You can move the AF frame directly by touching the monitor.

Camera-assisted Portraits.
Face/Eye Detection AF.

The camera detects faces and eyes for automatic focusing. Once a face or eyes are detected, a frame is displayed. When multiple people are detected, simply touch the face of the one you want to focus on to move the AF point. This feature is enabled during shooting with [Auto-area AF], [Zone Select AF] [Select AF], or [Pinpoint AF].

A Unique GR Quick Shooting Feature.
Full Press Snap.

The GR IV is equipped with the “Full Press Snap” function that allows you to instantly shift the focus to a preset distance by simply pressing the shutter release button fully. This unique GR feature eliminates the focusing time lag when the button is pressed halfway, allowing you to shoot instantly. Responsiveness in dark areas has also been improved so you will never miss split-second photo opportunities whether shooting at night or in dark locations.

Smoother Focusing.
Focus Limiter.

You can limit the focusing distance according to the shooting theme, enabling smooth focusing. “Focus Limiter” can be set to [Near Side], [Far Side], or [Off]. [Near Side] is effective for shooting closer subjects when you want to keep the AF from switching to the background. [Far Side] is useful for keeping AF from focusing on objects and people in the foreground when taking general snapshots.

Easier Snapshots.
Sn Mode.

The Sn mode (Snap Distance Priority AE) has been added to the mode dial. This allows you to shoot at the set snap focus distance and depth of field. The depth of field can be adjusted in three levels, allowing you to easily enjoy expressions that emphasize depth in combination with the snap focus distance.

Even Easier AE.
Program Auto Ex.

The GR IV is equipped with the “Program Auto Ex” function. Even when shooting in “Program AE,” turning the front e-dial instantly switches to “Aperture Priority AE,” and turning the rear e-dial seamlessly switches to “Shutter Priority AE.”

Intuitive Controls.
Touchscreen Monitor.

Simply touch the LCD monitor to move the AF frame and navigate menus. You can also change the zoom factor by pinching or spreading your fingers on the monitor during playback, swipe to browse images, and double tap during shooting to move the AF frame to the center of the image.

Intuitive Exposure Controls.
EV Compensation Button.

Exposure compensation can be quickly and intuitively adjusted with the EV compensation button. While holding the camera during shooting, instant exposure control is available with your thumb. The button shape has been carefully designed to allow the camera to be smoothly pulled out of your pocket while also preventing misoperation. This button offers quick responsiveness when taking snapshots.

Easier to Use.
Customization Function.

The GR series offers excellent controls in a compact snapshot camera design. The ADJ mode and Fn button can be customized for even easier use. In addition, the front and rear e-dials and EV compensation button can also be customized for each exposure mode. Furthermore, you can set frequently used settings to U1, U2, or U3 on the mode dial so you can quickly activate them when needed.

Depict an Even More Vivid World.
Image Control.

Capture scenes that catch your eye as images. The GR IV is equipped with two new “Image Control” options for a total of 14 image finishes. These new options are based on the idea of a certain cinematic “look.” [Cinema (Yellow)] gives images a dignified impression, and [Cinema (Green)] lends a cool finish to images. We have also tuned the conventional “Image Control” options. The grain effects that were previously only available in monochrome options can now be set with two “Cinema” options and two “Film” options. Furthermore, it is now possible to set the size of the grain.

Record Your Impressions of Light.
New Auto White Balance.

“Warmth Priority” and “White Priority” have been added to “Auto White Balance.” You can configure settings to your liking and make photos your very own—choose whether to show a warm atmosphere or faithfully reproduce colors when shooting under tungsten lighting, allowing you to enjoy impressive photographic expressions even with “Auto White Balance.”

28mm for Dynamic Close-ups.
Macro Mode.

Simply press the macro button to take close-up shots using AF. The focus range is 6 to 15cm from the front of the lens. Capture rich bokeh effects in impressive close-up snapshots.

Make Use of the Angle of View of Three Lenses.
Crop Mode..

You can switch the angle of view to match the subject. 35mm is great for capturing background information in a relaxed way, and the 50mm is close to what the human eye sees. Together with 28mm, this one model offers imaging expressions usually only possible with three different lenses. These options are also perfect for shooting styles that capture a sense of tension. Simply press the shutter release button to instantly capture your favorite composition without the need to trim the image later.

Capture Unreal Impressions in Images.
Multi-exposure.

When shooting, images can be composited without any limit on the number of shots. You can also display the compositing process to check the composition while overlapping images. Photos can also be retaken after shooting, so you can easily overlap images exactly the way you imagine them. You can choose from three types of exposure control when overlapping images and leave difficult exposure adjustments up to the camera. Enjoy impressive multi-exposure shots easily with nothing more than the camera.

Enjoy Greater Freedom over Exposure Settings.
Built-in ND Filter.

The GR IV features a built-in ND filter with two steps of exposure. It offers greater freedom over exposure settings, so you can open up the aperture to blur the background even in bright outdoor conditions, or use a slow shutter speed to blur moving subjects.

Supporting Highlight-weighted Metering.
AE Metering.

You can choose from the following four diverse metering methods: [Multi-segment], [Center-weighted], [Spot], and [Highlight-weighted]. [Highlight-weighted] is good for suppressing highlight blowouts and obtaining an even exposure when shooting subjects illuminated by spotlights or those that have significant differences in contrast.

Add the Perfect Finishing Touches without a Computer.
In-camera RAW Development.

RAW format data can be developed on the camera and saved as a JPEG image. This RAW development function is compatible with features such as the new “Image Control” and “White Balance” options, delivering advanced imaging options with nothing more than the camera. In addition, the save destination for developed images can be set to either the internal memory or a memory card. You can manage finished images in a batch for greater post-shooting enjoyment.

Bend Light to Your Will.
Dedicated Flash GF-2.

The newly developed GF-2 is a compact, slim flash designed specifically for the GR IV. Even when mounted on the camera, the compact design allows it to be slipped into a pocket. When the GR IV is set at ISO AUTO, camera's automatic exposure control adjusts the guide number and ISO sensitivity according to the distance from the subject. When the GR IV is set at fixed ISO, the guide number is adjusted according to the distance from the subject. This is effective not only in dark scenes but also in backlit situations, expanding the range of expressions possible.

Simply Attach It for Ultra Wide-angle Shooting.
Conversion Lens.

The Wide Conversion Lens GW-4 (optional) was developed based on the same design concepts as GR lenses. Attaching this lens to the GR IV widens the angle to an equivalent focal length of 21mm. This enables shots with dynamic expressions that make full use of the enhanced perspective and wide angle of view.

More Stable Communication.
Wireless LAN Function Compatible with 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz.

In addition to 2.4 GHz band, the wireless LAN function supports 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands. IEEE 802.11ac/ax is also supported for stable communications. Furthermore, the GR IV is compatible with Bluetooth® v5.3 (Bluetooth Low Energy) for easily connecting to smart devices. This feature enables seamless connection to the dedicated app “GR WORLD” for even more enjoyable photography.

The use of the 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands for wireless LAN is restricted outdoors in some countries. Please check local regulations before use.

Dedicated App for a More Enjoyable GR Experience.
GR WORLD.

“GR WORLD” is an app developed specifically for use with smart devices. Connecting it to the camera makes importing images, performing remote shooting, and sending location information to the camera easy. The app can also be used to extract and play back images shot with the GR series from those saved in smart devices. It is also a great tool for connecting to a large community through photos.

Outdoor View Setting Function for Automatically Adjusting the Brightness According to Changes in Outside Light.

A new LCD display is used for the monitor. The brightness range has been expanded and visibility is now excellent even in bright outdoor conditions and dim indoor conditions thanks to the improved “Outdoor View Setting” function. Furthermore, the GR IV is equipped with a new feature that automatically adjusts the monitor brightness. With it, you will never miss out on sudden, unpredictable photo opportunities no matter where you are.

Superb Toughness and Durability.
Magnesium Alloy Body.

The GR IV is the perfect companion to take along wherever you go for snapping photos. That is why we have built it with a lightweight, extremely tough magnesium alloy body, giving it superb durability.

Advanced Cleaning Function.
DR II.

New dirt and static electricity-resistant coating is used on the UV/IR protection filter in front of the image sensor. The GR IV is also equipped with a cleaning function that uses ultrasonic vibration to remove foreign objects from the filter. It is effective for keeping dust and dirt off the sensor and preventing spots in images.

Manage Images with Two Memory Options.
53 GB Internal Memory.

The GR IV features 53 GB of internal memory. Even without a memory card, there is plenty of space. You can record approx. 3,498 JPEG images (Aspect Ratio: 3:2, Crop: Off, JPEG Recorded Pixels: L), and approx. 995 RAW images (Aspect Ratio: 3:2, Crop: Off). In addition to specifying whether to prioritize saving to the internal memory or the memory card, you can also switch between the two while shooting and copy images between them. These two memory options offer greater flexibility over managing and backing up images.

Supporting Fast Charging and Power Supply.
USB-Type C.

USB Type-C is used for the external interface. You can connect the camera to a computer to charge the battery, transfer data, and use it as a display.

Rest Easy Knowing You Can Keep Shooting.
Long-life Battery.

A robust battery is also important when capturing lots of snapshots. The GR IV is equipped with the high-capacity, 1,800 mAh battery DB-120. Despite the compact body, the battery life has been expanded to accommodate approx. 250 shots* (GR III: approx. 200 shots). It also supports fast charging and power supply from a portable power source. With this new design, you will not have to worry about missing shots due to a dead battery.

Lower Environmental Impact.
Sustainability.

The GR IV packaging is made with high-end paper-coated cardboard and paper cushioning materials, keeping the product safe while minimizing plastic waste.
