Billingham Hadley Pro Shoulder Bag

The timeless, classic mid-sized Hadley Camera Bag. Fits most DSLRs (without a battery grip) or almost any mirrorless camera and 2-4 small to medium sized lenses with accessories. Tall enough to carry a 70-200mm lens not attached to the camera. Made in England with 3-layer waterproof fabric and real leather.

Removable Pad Insert
The flexible, padded insert is made of dense, fabric covered, 'closed-cell' foam. Protection is provided on all six sides - including the lid. Like the bag itself, the insert is flexible front-to-back and can therefore fit slightly bigger gear than its dimensions suggest. 2x vertical dividers and 2x horizontal flap dividers are included and can be attached anywhere inside with Velcro. The Padded Insert is also removable, giving you the ability to turn the Hadley Small from a camera bag to a casual, messenger bag in seconds.

Front Dump Pockets
The front dump pockets are perfect for cables, film, spare batteries and little bits and bobs that you would like to keep separate, whilst providing great extra storage space at the same time. On the top, outside corner of each pocket is a press stud. Release this to expand the space available, or keep it closed to form a perfect place to clip pens, pencils etc.

Rear Zipped Pocket and Adjustable Shoulder Sling
The rear of the bag has a zipped pocket and is ideal for slim papers such as maps etc. The zip is protected by a flap made out of the same 3-layer waterproof fabric as the bag.

Adjustable Shoulder Sling
The shoulder sling is made of strong woven polyester and is adjustable in length to suit your height and shooting style. The sling is compatible with the SP15 and SP40 (recommended) shoulder pads – not included.

'Quick Release System' Front Straps
The stitched, top-grain leather front straps have the 'Quick Release System' feature. Simply slide the straps up-and-off the brass 'clogballs' at the top for quick and easy access. Once the leather softens and you become used to it is likely that you'll be able to open the bag one handed while wearing it. The buckles allows you to fine tune the 'fit' of the front pockets. You do not need to use the buckles to open the bag.

Top Handle
An easy carry top handle is reinforced with fiberglass, allowing you to pick up and carry the bag without using the shoulder sling. The reinforcement has the extra benefit that it stops the bag bunching as you pick it up.

Add Avea End Pockets
Increase storage by attaching any one of our optional AVEA End Pockets to the side patches. The photo is of AVEA 7 End Pockets. AVEA 3, 5 & 8 also fit.

Sculpted Top Flap
The sculpted top flap helps prevent rain, snow or unwanted fingers getting into the main compartment. It is made of the same 3-layer waterproof fabric as the rest of the bag.

Discrete and Slim
The discrete styling of the Hadley Pro means that it doesn't look like a camera bag, which is ideal for travelling without drawing attention. The bag is naturally flexible and moulds to the body of the wearer. Its slim body makes it a great bag to weave through crowds with.

Fits:

  • Most DSLRs (e.g. Canon 5D, Nikon D850, Pentax K1 II) with a small-to-medium lens attached (without battery grip). Plus 2 to 4 lenses (inc a 70-200mm not attached to the camera).
  • Almost any mirrorless camera (Sony A7IV, Fujifilm X-T4, Nikon Z7, Canon R6 etc) with small to medium lens attached. Plus 2-4 lenses.
  • Any rangefinder camera (Leica M10, Leica M6 etc) with almost any lens attached. With room left for extra lenses.

  • Small foldable drones such as Mavic Air 2 or Mavic Mini 2 with space to spare.

The front to back internal measurement is only 80mm but you say it will fit a DSLR? How does that work?

The bag is very flexible! At the bottom of the bag it can easily expand out to a 100mm front to back measurement, and at the top 120mm is a comfortable amount with 160mm being do-able if you need it to. So this easily covers most DSLRs inserted lens-down so long as you haven't attached a battery grip. By this standard the Canon 5D, Canon 6D, Canon 7D, Canon 80D, Nikon D750, Nikon D810, Nikon D850 and Nikon DF will fit just fine with 2 or 3 lenses.

The Canon 1DX, Nikon D5 or any DSLR (the ones with mirrors in) with a battery grip attached will be a struggle to fit in lens down - for those we would probably recommend something like a Hadley One (with the optional full size insert, a Hadley Large Pro or our 5-series and 7-series bags such as 207, 335 etc.

Hadley Pro VS Hadley Pro 2020

The Hadley Pro and Hadley Pro 2020 have the exact same internal padded insert and can therefore carry the same amount of equipment.

The difference between the two camera bags is that the Hadley Pro 2020 has the following upgraded features:

  • Removable shoulder sling
  • Luggage trolley strap on the back
  • Leather underneath the top handle for added comfort when carrying
  • Improved weatherproof zip on the rear document zip pocket
  • Unstitched front straps

There are minimal external dimension differences due to the different shoulder sling fixings on the Hadley Pro 2020.

Do the buckles make the bag slow to get into?

You do not need to use the buckles to open the bag, they are for occasional tweaking only. The buckles allow you to control how much the bag can flex and carry. The 'Quick Release System' front straps are the correct way to open the bag.

The Front Straps are opened by sliding the top of the strap up and off the brass Clogball (round stud) that is attached to the main flap. This is a very quick way to open and close the bag and many people learn to do this one-handed as the leather softens.

We recommend keeping the strap inside the buckle during normal use as this keeps the straps securely attached to the bag and prevents the chances of losing your straps.

What is the difference between 'Canvas' and 'FibreNyte'?

In simple terms ‘Canvas’ or ‘FibreNyte’ refers to top layer of fabric on our bags – the facecloth.

‘Canvas’ is a mix of cotton and polyester. ‘FibreNyte’ refers to our face fabric that is completely synthetic. Canvas is hard wearing, FibreNyte is very hard wearing.

Both fabrics are bonded to a non-wicking polyester backing fabric with a middle layer butyl rubber – this rubber layer makes both fabrics equally (and very) waterproof. Water can’t get through that rubber layer.

Both fabrics have a similar weave - the FibreNyte looks similar to canvas. Canvas is slightly softer to the touch, FibreNyte is slightly rougher to the touch.

People tend to choose Canvas if they want the bag to age gracefully and look vintage over time. This is particularly true of people who choose our ‘Khaki Canvas’ fabric as this looks particularly lovely as it ages.

People tend to choose FibreNyte if they want the bag to look newer for longer or if they are particularly hard on their gear - for example by carrying the bag to work with them every day, doing a lot of hiking or filling it particularly full. If you are buying a black bag it’s particularly worth considering FibreNyte as it will stay looking blacker longer. Also Sage FibreNyte is particularly attractive as a color – it’s probably the most popular color among our staff!
