It offers extraordinary sensitivity, resolution and dynamic range, thanks to its back-illuminated format, gapless on-chip lenses, and AR coating (anti-reflection seal glass).
BIONZ XR processing power for exceptional image quality With up to eight times more processing power than previous versions, the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine delivers natural gradations and realistic colors with low noise for stills and movies.
Dedicated AI Processor and Real-time Recognition for accurate subject tracking The α6700’s AF system delivers dramatically enhanced overall performance, drawing on major improvements in subject recognition performance. Deep learning technology supports powerful Real-time Recognition AF and more reliable Real-time Tracking of a wider variety of subjects.
4K/60p 6K oversampled 4:2:2 10-bit recording with Long GOP or All Intra formats The α6700 captures 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) at up to 60p (50p) using Sony's proprietary 6K oversampling technology. By compressing this expanded detail into the output, it achieves 4K video quality with outstanding definition, even at higher frame rates. The camera also supports high-quality XAVC S-I (All-Intra) and XAVC HS formats with 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling.
High frame rate 4K 120p (100p) recording High frame rate recording at up to 120p for 4K QFHD (3840 x 2160) output makes it possible to capture high-resolution movies in-camera. This expands creative possibilities in post-production by allowing subject motion to be emphasized or transformed into smooth slow motion. S&Q mode also enables recording of slow or quick motion sequences in camera from the outset.
5-axis in-body optical image stabilization with up to 5-steps of compensation Shoot hand-held or in low-light with confidence — the 5-axis in-body optical image stabilization system is supported by precision gyro sensors to deliver up to 5-steps of shake compensation. It detects and compensates for various types of camera shake, including angular (pitch/yaw) shake that is more apparent at longer focal lengths, or when shooting with slower shutter speeds.
Precise anti-shake compensation at the single-pixel level Through enhanced design and control of key parameters, the α6700 provides precise detection and control right down to the single-pixel level, taking full advantage of the sensor's 26.0 megapixel resolution to produce images that capture all the finer details.
Wide dynamic range and high sensitivity for diverse shooting scenarios The α6700's standard sensitivity ranges from a low ISO 100 to ISO 32000 and offers a wide dynamic range so that natural gradations can be captured in high-contrast scenes without blown highlights or blocked shadows.
Consistently accurate exposure and color with new AE algorithm The α6700 offers impressive exposure control. It's equipped with a new AE algorithm, initially developed for full-frame models, which enables it to accurately detect the skin area of faces and adjust exposure accordingly when shooting stills and movies. It can also maintain realistic colors under a wide range of light sources, from sunlight through to theatre and stadium lighting, and produce more natural skin tones, sky and foliage colors.
Selectable RAW file types and JPEG Light quality setting In addition to compressed RAW capture, the α6700 supports lossless compressed RAW capture that provides efficient compression, allowing a greater number of high-quality images to be shot in continuous bursts. A new Light image quality selection that generates less data is provided for JPEG and HEIF images.
HEIF: High compression with excellent image quality For the first time in an APS-C camera, the α6700 includes the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) format with smooth 10-bit gradations for more realistic reproduction of skies and portrait skin tones. The HEIF format also uses advanced compression technology to maintain image quality while significantly reducing file size and saving storage space.
Faster, more precise AF with 759 phase detection AF points, 93% coverage The immense processing power and updated algorithms of the new BIONZ XR engine achieve notably improved AF performance, with up to 759 phase detection points, covering approximately 93% of the image area when shooting stills. Deep learning technology supports powerful Real-time Recognition AF as well as more reliable Real-time Tracking, in turn supported by higher Fast Hybrid AF performance over a wider area.
Smarter AI based Real-time Tracking The upgraded and more reliable AI-based Real-time Tracking makes shooting in a wider range of situations simpler, leaving you free to concentrate on framing and composition. The α6700 can even track people wearing helmets or animals facing away from the camera.
Innovative AI processing with Human pose estimation The α6700 uses subject form data to recognize movement, achieving greatly improved human eye recognition. It also employs learned human forms and postures to precisely recognize body and head positions, making it possible to lock onto and track a subject facing away from the camera, or with their face partly obscured by a helmet or sunglasses.
Real-time Recognition AF for wider range of subjects In addition to humans and animals, the α6700 now recognizes birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes, providing even greater flexibility and reliability when shooting both stills and movies. Heads and bodies are recognized in addition to eyes (Real-time Eye AF) for the Human and Animal settings, and now for the Bird setting too, with animal recognition performance more than 40% higher compared to the α6600.
Shoot more than 1000 JPEG images at 11 fps The α6700's powerful BIONZ XR processing engine combines with a large buffer memory to boost write speeds to memory cards, so that the camera can shoot more than 1000 JPEG images, up to 59 compressed RAW images, or up to 23 lossless compressed RAW images in continuous high-speed bursts.
Full-time Direct Manual Focus (DMF) When shooting stills with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, the lens's focus ring can be rotated to instantly switch to manual focus mode at any time. This makes it easy to switch focus to a different subject on the fly.
Focus bracketing to create incredible depth of focus The α6700 can automatically shoot up to 299 images with sequentially shifted focus points according to intervals and a sequence specified by you. Pick the perfect shot, or post-process multiple shots to achieve creative composites with incredible depth of focus.
Flicker suppression from artificial lighting for stills and movies Suppress flicker from artificial lighting whether you're shooting stills or movies. Simply select "Anti-flicker Shoot", or use "Var. Shutter" to fine-tune shutter speeds to match flicker rates when filming.
S-Log3 gamma curve with 14+ stops of latitude and S-Cinetone The S-Log3 gamma curve emphasizes gradation characteristics from shadows to mid-grey (18% grey), achieving up to 14+ stops of latitude for flexible and creative editing. Incorporating the same color science as the CineAlta and Cinema Line, the α6700 includes Sony's S-Cinetone picture profile as a preset, delivering images with more faithful color reproduction and natural skin tones straight from the camera.
Flexible ISO Log shooting mode for greater exposure setting freedom. Flexible ISO is an S-Log3 shooting mode that allows ISO sensitivity to change according to the brightness of the scene, while aperture and shutter speed are set manually. ISO can be set to AUTO or manually set between 800 and 32,000 (200 and 32,000 in expanded ISO mode) as required for optimum exposure. Preset or User defined LUTs can also be activated.
Picture Profile supports imported LUT files for monitoring and recording Custom user LUT files (.cube format) can be imported into the camera and assigned to Picture Profiles. This makes it easy to use LUTs for monitoring while shooting and to create specific looks when shooting in modes other than preset looks. The look is recorded in-camera, so color correction in post processing can be minimized or eliminated altogether.
AI based Real-time Tracking for movies AI-based Real-time Tracking provides a dramatic improvement in Real-time Tracking performance, automatically recognizing, tracking, and focusing on the eyes of a specified subject. In addition to using the Touch Tracking function to initiate tracking, a custom button can be used to temporarily track a selected subject regardless of the subject's position in the frame and the focus area setting.
Active Mode for enhanced movie image stabilization Active Mode provides powerful image stabilization for handheld movie shooting. The α6700 can accurately measure camera shake which is then precisely compensated for optically, providing highly effective stabilization without sacrificing mobility, even when shooting 4K.
Breathing Compensation function for consistent angle of view with movies When shooting movies with compatible lenses, automatic breathing compensation uses Clear Image Zoom technology to maintain a consistent angle of view, suppressing changes that may occur due to shifts in focus position. Breathing metadata can also be used in post-production.
Ai-based Auto Framing automatically adjusts framing to highlight your subject Through AI-based subject recognition technology, the Auto Framing feature automatically crops the frame to keep the subject in a prominent position when shooting movies. Even if the camera is mounted on an unmanned tripod, framing is continually adjusted so that recorded footage looks like the subject was being followed by an experienced camera operator.
In-camera Time-lapse creation to capture unforgettable moments The in-camera time-lapse function allows you to create time-lapse videos within the camera itself. The exposure interval can be set from 1 second to 60 seconds, making it easy to compress slow action into enjoyable time-lapse sequences. When a compatible video light (sold separately) is attached to the camera, it can be set to turn on just before each exposure so that time-lapse sequences can be shot in low-light settings.
Focus Map and Peaking display for shooting video Movie making is made simpler with the Focus Map function that allows you to visualize depth of field when recording video. Focus information is overlaid on the live view display in real time so that you can easily identify the in-focus and out-of-focus areas — particularly useful when shooting with a large-aperture to create a narrow depth of field. The camera also offers peaking display, making it possible to check auto and manual focus while recording.
Compact, lightweight camera made for your hands With its compact shape, and lightweight 17.4 oz (493 g) body, the α6700 offers remarkable portability and maneuverability without compromising image quality. A new grip design provides a solid, even more comfortable hold on the camera, while giving greater control for shooting both stills and movies.
High-performance eye-level electronic viewfinder A 2.36 million-dot (approx.) XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 1.07x magnification delivers an exceptional view of your world. With twice the brightness of the α6600, and a wider 33-degree viewing angle, it offers clear, easy viewing while shooting. The finder frame rate can be set to 120 fps — twice the normal rate — for a smooth viewfinder image, with minimum display motion blur when tracking and shooting moving subjects.
Enhanced shooting flexibility with vari-angle LCD monitor The α6700 features a large 3.0-type 1.03 million-dot (approx.) touch-panel LCD monitor with a 3:2 aspect ratio and side-opening vari-angle flexibility. This allows greater positioning and framing freedom, giving you plenty of creative options for handheld and gimbal-mounted shooting of stills and movies.
