- Additional Information
The Action X50 is our action sports workhorse. It’s designed for photographers who need to carry a lot of gear yet still be agile and part of the action. It features an adjustable harness to achieve a perfect fit, and a removable belt to quickly streamline the bag for urban or event situations. A removable helmet holder, TPU ski compression straps and a newly revised side-access system with YKK splashguard zippers round out the set of adventure-friendly features. Like all Action X series packs, it has a space efficient and expandable roll-top with quick access zipper. Finally, it delivers convenience to aggressive and time-sensitive action photography situations via its newly improved side camera access.
Action X50 Starter Kit includes Action X50 Backpack, Medium DSLR Core Unit, and Helmet Holder
Multiple Access Points
The Shimoda Action X50 backpack offers rear and side access options. The side opening is ideal for quick, under-the-arm access without completely removing the pack. It’s accessed through a YKK SplashGuard® zipper which protects water and other tiny elements like sand from entering your pack.
The rear opening allows wide, unobstructed access to the bulk of your gear for less time-sensitive shooting situations. It has an EVA-padded door-style opening which acts as added protection against airborne elements in difficult shooting environments and can help keep snow and rain out the gear area. The interior side of the door has a 15-inch laptop sleeve. It sits against the users back and provides fast access at airports and in other efficiency driven scenarios.
Adjustable Torso Height:
The X50 has 4 height options with approximately 10 cm (4 in) of vertical adjustment. This means the same backpack can fit short or tall — male or female — torso heights, ensuring a custom fit for everyone.
Core Unit Modular Camera Insert System:
Core Units provide shockproof protection for Mirrorless, SLR and DSLR cameras and lenses, and they ensure a user never carries more padding and weight than necessary. A user can increase their layout options with two or more Core Units by stacking and shifting how they are placed in our camera pack.
Expandable Roll-Top Access:
The roll top can expand with a volume range of 7-liters so the bag can be adjusted to your gear needs while maintaining a tight and compact fit.
The Medium DSLR Core Unit can be used on its own or in combination with additional Core Units to expand the amount of protected equipment space in a Shimoda pack or roller as more camera gear is needed. Breaking down the equipment protection into modules allows the user to minimize weight and bulk and to never carry more padded sections than is needed for the day’s camera kit. The inserts can customize the bag to a user’s shooting style and the terrain ahead of them.
This Core Unit is designed to accommodate larger-sized camera bodies – but that doesn’t mean it is limited to them. It works wonders with any gear, but especially with gear requiring more depth. It will fit a gripped mirrorless or DSLR body and a lens as long as 70-200mm 2.8.
The Core Unit comes with a removable ultra-light Skin which can to be used with the insert to protect gear from dust and damage when it is being stored after use. The Skin can be also removed from the Core Unit and filled with soft goods like warmer clothing layers, hats, gloves etc., keeping those items sealed and organized throughout your adventure. Core Units, Skins and Accessory Cases all share the same width as the backpacks and Carry On Roller, so you never loose any valuable packing space.
